Hurricane Katrina

For those who go to UW-Platteville, you should have gotten this e-mail:

The University Bookstore will be accepting monetary donations for the victims of the hurricane. These monetary donations will be given to the American Red Cross. Our hours for the Labor Day weekend are Friday 8-3, Saturday 10-4, Sunday 12-4 and Monday closed. Our academic hours start on Tuesday, September 6th. Thank you for your help for those who are in need. Donations will accepted until Oct. 15th.

For all the others out there reading this, please help out the people down in New Orleans and the surrounding areas. The government will be EXTREMELY slow to help out. I don’t say this to bash the government, no, but it’s a known fact that it takes time to set everything up. The best bet is to donate to Red Cross or other organizations.

Just imagine that it’s your family there. What would you do? What if it was you down there? What would you want others to do? You have no food, no electricity, nothing to keep you warm. There is death around you. All I ask you to do is what you actually can. As a college student, I cannot donate all the money I want to, but I will donate what I can. I just ask you to do the same. Maybe don’t buy that $50 shirt you were planning on and help a whole family.
